The blue, black and turquoise variations feature the 'Fawohodie' pattern based on the Adinkra symbol of independence, freedom and emancipation. Adinkra symbols originate in West Africa and have been used in African visual arts since the 12th century. An 'eye' motif is integrated into the pattern. Eye motifs have been traditionally used in Turkish decorative arts to bring good luck and protection from the evil eye.
